HPV warts picturesCommon warts are benign skin lesions whose proliferation is induced by a DNA virus called human papillomavirus (HPV). There are many subtypes of HPV that determine, depending on location, different clinical aspects: common warts, genital warts, mucosal damage and a clinical picture very special called epidermodysplasia verruciformis. Different types of HPV warts are described according to their clinical form (exophytic called vulgar or common, flat, elongated, mosaic) and also depending on the location (plantar digital, genital, periungual) . The clinical diagnosis can be helpful in the few difficult cases, by histological examination or PCR. 
Warts infect people of any age, but they are more common in children and young adults, their incidence is estimated at 10 per 100. They are more frequent on certain specific grounds, reaching 40 per 100 patients transplanted kidney, for example. The mode of contamination is primarily interhuman from a skin microtrauma. The possibility of contamination in specific places such as swimming pools and sports halls is discussed. |
